Susan Percival, Secretary and Bus Shelter/Seaparc Exhibit Coordinator (Human)


Susan Percival, recently retired from School District 62, has been involved in the arts scene in Sooke for the last 20 years. Projects range from the Community Hall murals, the inclusion of student art at the Sooke Fine Arts show and the Sooke Art Bus Shelter initiative. Susan also offers custom pet portraits and has created animal images that reside in private collections from Sooke to Moncton to Hobart, Tasmania. 

 

Susan is active with SAC as an artist and is currently filling the role of Secretary to assist the Board in tracking the exciting changes coming in the next year. Please feel free to connect with Susan if you are interested in showcasing your art in the Bus Shelter. 


Carolyn Hahn, Treasurer (She/Her)


Carolyn Hahn is a semi-retired, self-employed administrator and bookkeeper. With over 30+ years in the administration/accounting field, her professional achievements range from administering large multi-million dollar corporate organizations to, most recently, working with smaller not-for-profit organizations as a director in the Victoria area. Although not an artist herself, she is keenly interested in the arts, supporting the local arts community, and being more involved in the local Sooke community.

Lynda Slater, Director and Volunteer Coordinator

Lynda Slater has been enthralled with textiles all her life, exploring spinning, weaving, sewing and dyeing. For the last 20 years she has worked almost exclusively in dyeing silk fabric and threads. She has studied the dye process in the USA , Italy, Bali and Canada and has had the opportunity to work with some very knowledgeable artists. 


Lynda is an avid volunteer in the SAC Gallery and Gift Shop and coordinates the SAC monthly gallery volunteers.

Peter Jonassen, Director


Peter Jonassen represents music and performing arts on the Sooke Arts Council Board of Directors. He works at promoting local musicians, most notably the Sooke Festival of Music and Art which has enthralled music lovers every year since 2016.

Deb Schenk, Director


Deb has her finger on the pulse of Sooke and has been actively involved in many organizations and their committees:

  • Executive Director of the Sooke Chamber of Commerce
  • Managing Director for South Vancouver Island The Shoebox Project for Women (6 years)
  • Past President of the Sooke Harbourside Lions (14+ years)
  • Committees include: Toys for Kids, LCIF Dog Guide Walk, Shoreline Cleanup, Taste of BC, Duck Race, Sooke Food Bank
  • The Amber Academy, Past Director and Event Co-Ordinator
  • The Xmas Bureau, Past President


Bonnie Sprinkling, Director


Bonnie Sprinkling is an avid supporter of the arts in Sooke. She strives to promote their many forms through her involvement with several non-profit arts groups. Bonnie is a Director with the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra and coordinator of the annual Sooke Secret Garden Tour fundraiser, and is a working member of the Sooke Fine Arts Society. For enjoyment, she is a member of the Sooke Community Choir and the Sooke Garden Club. Bonnie looks forward to working with the Sooke Arts Council to promote and showcase the diverse and amazing artistic talent in Sooke.

Megan J.L. Evans, Director


Megan Evans is a visual artist living in Sooke who has been a member of the Sooke Arts Council since 2018 and has volunteered throughout 2023. Megan has taught several acrylic painting workshops at the Sooke Arts Council studio and currently teaches advanced art at Amber Academy in Sooke to youth, grade 6 and up, and hopes to empower young artists on their creative journey.


She has painted from a young age and has taken art courses through Camosun College, local workshops, and online lessons through Ginger Cook’s Academy of Fine Art and Acrylic Painting. Megan seasonally participates as a vendor in the Sooke Night Market at the Sooke Region Museum and creates acrylic paintings, resin art sculptures, and mosaic wall art using glass tiles.

Gail Scott, Ex Officio, District of Sooke


For the past 30 plus years my career has spanned all aspects of urban and rural community economic development practices within the private and public industry sectors throughout BC and Alberta in support of building vibrant, resilient, and sustainable communities. My work has provided me the opportunity to work directly with First Nations, Municipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal levels of government, NGOs, Not for Profits, and Educational Institutions. My focus has been on Entrepreneurial and SME Business Development, Tourism/Visitation Economy Development, and Social-Economic Community Development (Recovery and Resiliency).
