FEATURED ARTIST
February 2024 - Linda M. Anderson
BC Multi Media Artist Linda M Anderson
The ebb and flow of an artistic mind can be fascinating. For me, it has taken many forms. I don’t remember a time when creating was not part of my life. I trained as a Commercial artist but expanded my artistic experiences as an owner/operator of an Art Gallery and an Arts & Craft store. I focused on learning how to do and teach every product I sold. Just ask me – I probably know the basic procedures of most art forms.
I now balance my time with my personal painting, the challenge of entering juried shows, and working in several mediums at the same time: water colours, acrylics, mixed media, porcelain painting and hand crafting jewelry. I also travel as a workshop instructor and give private lessons at my home.
I am a teacher of visually impaired artists and do critiques via the internet.
Workshop instructor for Artist's groups in Sooke, West Shore, Metchosin, Duncan, Princeton, Osoyoos, Keremeos, Oliver, Summerland, Penticton, Peachland and Merritt. Taught Art Therapy for Social Services. Have been a guest Instructor for grade 11 & 12 year students of Princeton and a group of Secondary school and primary art teachers for Oliver School district. Facilitator of Pro D day instruction for Sooke School District on “Communicating with Colour” (created by me) for ages from 2yrs to adults (in the home, classroom and workplace).
I have participated in many prominent shows; published in “Artists of BC” and "The Conversation" - a collaborative between Poets and Artists; created murals for the Sooke Legion, Cordova Bay Parade of Homes, The Hitching Post and Hitching Post II Restaurants, the 4 Square Church & the Cultural Center in Princeton. Completed many commissioned portraits and paintings.

LINDA M. ANDERSON INSPIRATION
Describe your creative process and how you go about starting and completing a finished piece.
First I decide what to paint and then which technique. Do drawings and value sketches to determine composition and design. Decide which story I want to tell then determine my centre of interest. My next step is to decide on mood or what reaction I want from the viewer and the colour scheme that will best give me that.
What are you most inspired by and how is this reflected in your work?
I am inspired by everything. It is reflected in the diversity of technique, colours and subject matter of my paintings.
What are your artistic goals and how does your work contribute to your community?
I love to create. I donate to all Sooke fundraisers.
