The Mandate and Purpose of the Sooke Arts Council


  • To encourage creative participation in and excellence in the arts
  • To encourage the development of opportunities to perform and exhibit the arts
  • Act as a clearing house for information on the arts
  • Bring to the attention of local, regional, provincial and federal authorities the artistic needs of the community


The Sooke Arts Council (SAC) is a registered not-for-profit society dedicated to promoting and supporting the arts within the Sooke community. Funded by the BC Arts Council and the District of Sooke, SAC serves as a hub for artists, art enthusiasts, and the broader public to engage with various forms of artistic expression.


Mission and Values

SAC is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, age, religion, or socioeconomic background. The Council acknowledges the traditional territories of the Coast Salish, SCIA’NEW Nation, T’Sou-ke Nation, and the Nuu-chah-nulth Pacheedaht Nation, expressing gratitude for the privilege of living and creating on these lands.


Gallery and Gift Shop

Located at 2043 Church Road, Sooke, BC, the SAC Gallery and Gift Shop operates Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 am to 4 pm. The gallery showcases a diverse range of artworks from local artists, providing a space for exhibitions, workshops, and community events. The gift shop offers unique, handcrafted items, supporting local artisans and providing visitors with the opportunity to purchase original pieces.


Membership and Opportunities

SAC encourages individuals from all walks of life to become members. Membership fees are $30 per year for individuals and $40 per year for groups or businesses. Benefits include access to various resources, opportunities to exhibit artwork, participation in workshops, and involvement in community projects. Members are also invited to attend meetings and contribute to the vibrant arts community in Sooke.

The Council regularly hosts events, exhibitions, and workshops aimed at engaging the community and promoting artistic development. These activities provide platforms for artists to showcase their work, learn new skills, and connect with others.
