Poetics Art Show Call  

Sooke Arts Council (SAC) is partnering with Sooke Writers’ Collective (SWC) for a unique art show featuring art created in response to poetry or flash fiction. 

For Artists: 

Phase 1 

Sign up now to take part in this collaborative effort. Deadline for this phase June 5. 

Phase 2 

You will receive a pdf of anonymous writing via email by June 6 and a link to a special form to register for one of the written works by June 15. 

You will be asked to list three works with preferences (1st, 2nd and 3rd).  We will do our best to honour requests or will consult with you if your choices are taken. (first come, first served) 

How to work with your assigned writing: 

Read and reread the piece. Also read it out loud so you can feel the rhythm and impact of the words. Create a 2D or 3D work (up to 20 inches on the longest side) in response to the  words/ descriptions/ideas and emotions within the piece.

You do not have to try to create a work that includes all the images that might be in the writing. It’s more to do with the emotional 

response surrounding it and any kind of central image that comes to you while experiencing the writing. 

Please note: Because of the special circumstances of this show we can only accept 20 to 25 artists. If we don’t receive enough artist entries, registered artists will be invited to create a second entry.  Artists must be SAC members. 

Phase 3 

Submit your art work information via our show submission form. Don’t forget to include all information: name of piece, size, medium and price. Deadline to submit art:  by Wednesday, Aug. 14

2. Deadline to submit art:  Wednesday, Aug. 14, drop off art at gallery on Sunday, Aug 18 between 3 and 4pm
